Alan Jay Switzer, 93, of the State line area died Thursday morning at St. Vincent Williamsport Hospital. He was born March 16, 1925, near Danville, IL the son of Stanley D. Switzer and Grace Fowler Switzer. At the age of 6 years, Alan and his Switzer family moved to the State Line City area.
He attended Covington High School and graduated with the class of1942. He attended Purdue University School of Engineering. Alan served in the U. S. Army, was assigned to Co. F, 1st INF, Regt, 6th Infantry Division in the occupation of South Korea.
Upon return from Korea, Alan married Betty Jo Parrett on November 24, 1946 at the State Line M. E. Church, State Line, IN. They lived in Kent Township, Warren County all their married life.
Alan became a member of State Line M. E. Church in 1938, with a class of fourteen young boys. He was active in several positions at the church. Soon after the closing of State Line M. E. Church, he transferred to Farmer’s Chapel, Danville, IL.
Alan was active on many different Committees of Warren County Extension Services. He was a Farm Bureau member and served many different offices. He served eight years on Seeger High School Board, a Life member of Purdue University Alumni Association, became a Life member of Knights of Pythias, Life Member of American Legion, member 6th Infantry Division Association.
Survived by wife, Betty Jo Parrett Switzer. Children Susan Pearcy (Tom) and James Switzer (Pam). 6 grandchildren Bret Myers (Kristi), Bart Myers (Tricia), Jason Switzer (Trisha), Marcie Wolf (Brad), Blake Barker-Switzer (Tiffany), Chelsea Barker-Switzer (Matt) and 12 Great Grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents, son Douglas Alan Switzer, a brother Frank Switzer and niece Janice Switzer.
