Alfred Leon Moore

Cates, IN. Alfred Leon Moore, 78 of near Cates, IN. died at 12:25 pm Thursday April 26, 2012, in the Waters of Covington. He was born Aug. 21, 1933 in Broadlands, IL. to Alfred Lee and Bertha (Chapman) Moore. His family moved to Parke Co., IN. in 1943 and lived near Tangier, graduating from Tangier High School in 1952. He was active in the Alumni Association and a past-president.
He joined the Army in 1954, did Basic Training at Ft. Leonard Wood, then spent a year at Edwards Air Force Base, CA., then Ft. Bliss, TX.
He later farmed and drove trucks for several companies, retiring from Churchill in 1995.
He married June Kinneer on January 23, 1955. They were married for 57 years and were the parents of Clyde L. (Debbie) Moore of Kingman, Jannie (Doug) Denhart of Veedersburg and Sam (Sara) Moore of State Line, IN. 2 grandchildren; Brian Moore and Shalynne (Daniel) Addison. 3 great-grandchildren; Ezekiel Addison, Elisha Addison and Paxton Lee Moore. brothers; Ernest, Paul, Larry and Clifford. Also a sister Darlene Stucker.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Terry and a granddaughter Jessica.
After retiring in 1995, he loved travelling in his 5th wheel camper and driving to Alaska was the highlight of the 49 states they visited. They spent the winters in Dolphin Park at Donna, TX. With their Winter Texas family where he called Bingo and enjoyed visiting with friends.
He was a member of the Kingman Post # 384 American Legion, Retired Teamsters, Jayco Camping Club, Jafari Travel Club and attended Weslaco Free Will Baptist Church.
Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 pm EDT Saturday April 28th at Shelby Funeral Home in Covington. Funeral Service at 2:00 pm EDT Sunday April 29th, with Pastor Kenneth Majors officiating. Burial will be in Rockfield Cemetery with Military Graveside Rites by the Kingman American Legion.
