Barbara Lou Walter

February 16, 1930 — August 10, 2017

Barbara Lou Walter, 87, of Covington died on Thursday August 10, 2017 after a short illness. She was born in Danville, Illinois on February 16, 1930 to Alberta Thayer Martin and Paul Hanley Martin.

She graduated from Danville High School in 1947. After high school, she worked at the Flamingo Hair Pin factory putting hair pins on cards by hand.

Barbara met her husband, Coy Dean Walter, at Pop’s skating rink. They were married September 12, 1948 at Danville, IL. Barbara worked at the Mid-town Dry Cleaning and Teepak while she and Coy had their family. In 1960, they moved to their home on Route 1, Covington, IN with their 3 sons.  She was a homemaker and returned to Teepak in 1968 until her retirement in 1994.

Barbara was a wonderful cook. Her family loved her homemade noodles, pies, cinnamon rolls and yeast rolls. She always had a delicious meal on the table. She enjoyed making maple candy in the sugar camp with the whole family present. Barbara attended Wabash Chapel south of Covington, IN. and enjoyed her friends of the Ladies Aid Club and Home Economics Club.

Barbara is survived by her three sons, Mark Allen (Kathleen) of Lake Charles, LA; Paul Dean (Sheila) of Indianapolis, IN; and Glen James Walter of Attica, IN; her grandchildren, Sarah Elizabeth Walter of Iowa, LA; Stephanie Ann (Kevin) Hicks of Exton, PA; and Mark Ryan Walter of Baton Rouge, LA; and her great grandson, Landon John Hicks of Exton, PA; her sister-in-law, Donna Martin of Covington, IN; brother-in-law, Marvin Ferguson of Brownsburg, IN; her sister-in-law & brother-in-law, Anna Marie and William (Smokey) Loschen of Fithian, IL. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. She will be fondly remembered by those who knew and loved her.

She was predeceased by her parents, Alberta and Paul Martin; her husband, Coy; her brother Paul Samuel Martin; her brother-in-law & sister-in-law, Charles and Bonnie Walter; her sister-in-law, Betty Walter Ferguson; and her son, John Martin Walter.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Wabash Chapel Church, Covington, IN 47932 or the charity of one’s choice.

Visitation will be on Monday, August 14, 2017 from 10:00 A. M. until time of services at Noon at Shelby Funeral Home, Covington, IN with Pastor Daneen Rodriquez officiating. Burial will follow in the Mount Hope Cemetery, Covington, IN.  Condolences to the family: www.shelbyfuneralhome.com .
