Bernard Allen Briggs

Bernard Allen Briggs, 85, of Covington died Wednesday October 3, 2018 at OSF Heart of Mary Medical Center in Urbana. He was born December 11, 1932 at Kempton, IN the son of Herman D. and Effie (Allen) Briggs.

He graduated from Lafayette Jeff High School and attended Purdue. He was a repairman for Indiana Bell Telephone and Ameritech for thirty-seven years, retiring in 1993.  A resident of Covington since 1963, he formerly lived at Lafayette, Bloomington, and Columbus.  He was an avid roller skater, enjoyed riding motorcycles and fishing.

Bernard married Karen Ackley October 31, 1997 at Covington and she survives. Also surviving are two sons, David (Sharon) Briggs of Ft. Hood, TX; Daniel (Kelly) Briggs of San Diego, CA; two step daughters, Marilyn (Jeff) Strawser and Catherine (Ronald) Ford, both of Covington; ten grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and one on the way.  His parents a brother and a sister preceded him in death.

Visitation will be Saturday October 6, 2018 from Noon to 3:00 P. M. at Shelby Funeral Home. A celebration of Bernie’s life will follow at 3:00 P. M. with Rev.
