Betty Jean Bergeron

October 13, 1931 — September 10, 2021

Betty Jean Stonebraker Bergeron, 89, of Covington, IN passed from this life at 4:36 AM Friday, September 10, 2021 at her home surrounded by her family.  She was born to David R and J Pearl (Cruea) Noble on October 13, 1931 in the home of her grandfather Asa Cruea on the banks of the Wabash in Covington.

Betty was a 1950 graduate of Covington High School.  She married the love her of her life, James “Jimmy” Robert Stonebraker on November 21, 1952 in Veedersburg, IN.  Sadly, he passed away on October 26, 1987.  On March 3, 1989 she wed Herschel Sams and he, too left her a widow on June 22, 2002.  Leo Bergeron was her third husband whom she married May 17, 2004.  He preceded her in death on March 6, 2020.

Betty enjoyed each day and found humor in everyday life.  In the summer, she loved traveling, especially to Alaska and Hawaii and visiting USS Naval museums. She also enjoyed camping in her motor home; fishing; swimming “like a fish” daily, and racing regionally on her '74 Hodaka Road Toad motorcycle.  During the winter months, Betty could be found at the local skating rink, roller skating circles forward and backward around the local youth; dancing four days a week, and following the HWY 341 Band in Wallace with her close friend and Aunt Tressielee Noble. In addition, she supported the Covington Senior Center; played the stock market; and sewed her own clothes.  For many years she wintered in Frostproof, Florida where she volunteered as a mobile security guard for her community.  Most of all, Betty loved time with her family and friends and was very active in both the Noble and Stonebraker family reunions.  She was very proud of her husband Jimmy, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, telling anyone who would listen.

She was a member of the First Church of Christ, Walter Hoyt Post #350, American Legion Auxiliary, Moose Lodge #699, the NRA; and a retiree of Medline where she worked as a seamstress.

Surviving is a son, Darrel (Emma) Stonebraker of Veedersburg, IN, a daughter, Tanya Jo (Tony) Keller of Marshall, IN; three grandchildren, Brandi Keller of Williamsport, IN, Jeremiah (Megan) Wesley of Crawfordsville, IN, Dustin (Lacey) Stonebraker of Avon, IN; a step-granddaughter Makayla Keller; and two great-grandsons, Caleb & Ebren Keller.  She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Pattie Jo Reynolds, a brother Dean Noble, and a great-granddaughter Rian Wesley.

Private family services will be held on Monday September 13, 2021 at Shelby Funeral Home with Pastor Joey Emrick officiating. Betty will be laid to rest beside her husband Jimmy, in Mount Hope cemetery immediately following services.  A celebration of life will be held at a later date.  Memorials can be made in Betty's name to St. Jude Children's Hospital or Covington First Church of Christ.  Condolences to the family: www.shelbyfuneralhome.com .
