Carol D. Smail, 88 died at 3:50 a. m. Tuesday November 27, 2012 at The Waters of Covington following an extended illness.

She was born April 22, 1924 at Danville, IL the daughter of John M. and Bertha E. (Rodgers) Dennis.

Carol graduated from Covington High School in 1941. She was employed at G E in Danville over 30 years, retiring in 1983. A talented musician, Carol organized and directed Benson Chapel choir, played the organ and piano for 20 plus years. She enjoyed working with children in Bible School. She spent the winters in Florida for 20 years and was active in the church there and sang in a gospel Quartet with her husband for 10 years. Carol was a member of Covington United Methodist Church and a former member of Benson Chapel.

She was a generous, loving person and dearly, loved her children and grandchildren. She was an avid supporter of their activities, especially music and sports.
After retirement in 1983 Carol and Bill traveled extensively to many foreign countries and most of the United States.

Carol married William L. Smail January 16, 1943 at Covington. He survives with two sons, Dennis W. (Joyce) Smail of Lexington, KY, Jan (Priscilla) Smail of Covington; a grandson Christopher (Angela) Smail, a granddaughter Catherine (Will) Richards; two great grandsons, Luke and Roman Smail. Also surviving is a niece Diane Gates, a brother-in-law, Eugene (Virginia) Smail; 2 sisters-in-law, Constance Coffman and Anita Kronst.

Funeral services will be at Shelby Funeral Home Friday November 30, 2012 at 11:00 a. m. with Vincent Grogg officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Visitation 6:00 to 8:00 p. m. Thursday at the funeral home. Condolences to the family: www.shelbyfuneralhome.com
