Charles Thomas "Butch" Pettit

December 13, 1946 — January 2, 2016

Charles Thomas Butch Pettit, 69 of Covington died at 2:54 A.M. Saturday January 2, 2016 at home following an extended fight with cancer. Tom was born December 13, 1946 at Clinton, IA the son of Charles A. and Alberta M. (Althouse) Pettit.

Tom had been a resident of Covington since 1956 and formerly resided at Brevard, NC and Clinton, IA. He was a 1964 graduate of Covington High School and an Air Force veteran. Butch was employed at Auto Zone in Danville fourteen years. Butch enjoyed all sports, softball, basketball, especially I U basketball, and Colts football. He was an avid gardener, raising a large garden each year.

Tom married Thelma M. Cheesman September 25, 1982 at Veedersburg and she survives. Also surviving is a son Christopher Thomas (Julie Ann) Pettit of Covington, a daughter Stephanie (Jason) Bush of Kingman; five grandchildren, Chloe, Heaven, Kailey, Thomas, and Colton. Also surviving are two sisters, Sharon Carlson of Las Vegas, NV and Karen (Terry) Brandenburg of CA; two brothers, Jim Pettit of Fairmount, IL and Tim Pettit of Terre Haute; favorite nephews, Justin Pettit, Jeremy Pettit, and Chad Pettit; special friends, John Roberts, Martha Hutson, and Ralph Fields.

Visitation will be 5:00 P. M. Tuesday January 5, 2016 until time of services at 8:00 P. M. at Shelby Funeral Home with Duane Mycroft officiating.
