Edward Cleon Grubb

July 22, 1933 — June 5, 2021

Edward Cleon Grubb, 87, of Covington passed away unexpectedly on June 5, 2021 at home. He  was born July 22, 1933 to King Edward and Cleo (French) Grubb in Covington Indiana. He graduated from CHS in 1951 and attended Eastern Illinois University. He served in  the Army & Army reserves before taking ownership & management of Grubb Implement Store started by his dad in 1937.

He married the love of his life Patricia Leerkamp on April 17,1954 and celebrated 67 years together. They had one son Duane (Pat) Grubb of Covington, daughters Gay (John) Talbert of Brownsburg, and Ann (Scott) Hines of Dayton, Ohio. He had 11 grandchildren, Marki Sams, Cari (Ryan) Sowers, Trey Sams, Kallay (Brandon) Ricketts, AJay Grubb, Robby (Emily) Talbert, Allison (Andrew) Korba, Lauren Talbert, Abby (Justin) Parker, Brandon Hines, and Claire Hines. He also had 10 great grandchildren, Sarah, Jave, Marin, Allie, Grady, Wrenli, Ivy, Wesley, Olivia, and Emmett.

He was active in the Volunteer Fire Department for 40 years, served on the Fountain County Council and County Commissioner for several years. He was a member of the Illiana Antique Auto Car Club, and later joined the Illiana Antique Power Association where  he continued his love for antique tractors. He was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church.

Eddie was a dynamic hard-working man with a love for living life to the fullest. He loved his hobbies with antique cars and tractors, he attended the Indianapolis 500 Race consecutively since 1955 with just attending his last one this year. He had a competitive spirit whether it was rooting for local school sporting events, playing cards with family and friends, and getting the best deal for the dollar. He loved traveling, visiting his kids, camping, and spending winter months in Texas.

He is survived by his beloved wife, 3 children, 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren, and a sister Pat Marshall of Las Cruces, New Mexico.

He is preceded in death by his parents, one sister Clara Muckley, and 1 granddaughter Marki Sams.

Celebration of Life service will be held Wednesday, June 9, 2021 at 11:00 A. M. EDT at Covington United Methodist Church officiated by Ryan Sowers. Visitation will be held Tuesday June 8, 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the church. Burial in Mount Hope Cemetery.  Memorial donations may be made to the church, Covington Community Foundation, or the Illiana Antique Power Association.
