James Howard Bensyl

October 14, 1941 — July 3, 2015

James H. Bensyl, 73, passed away Friday July 3, 2015 at Wellbrooke of Crawfordsville IN. Jim was born in Danville, IL on October 14, 1941 the son of Vance Jack and Helen Maxine (Swaim) Bensyl. He married Connie Grimm August 25, 1967 at Catlin, IL.

Jim and his wife had recently moved to Crawfordsville, IN from their home of 37 years in rural Covington, IN. He was a member of First of Christ in Covington. He really enjoyed his Sunday School Class and meeting together in church. He briefly attended New Hope Christian Church in Crawfordsville, IN until he was unable to continue going to church. For a short time, Jim was a licensed barber but his lifelong career was driving semi-trucks and trailers on long haul runs. He retired in 1999 and enjoyed the comfort of his hilltop home in the country.
He loved and was so proud of his children and grandchildren, and it was the highlight of his day when they were able to visit. While was able, Jim kept in touch with his classmate form Oakwood High School, class of 1959. He was an avid Cardinal baseball fan and enjoyed bantering with friends about the mistakes made by the ball team managers of the various teams. He also enjoyed playing cards with friends and family. He loved his pets and their welfare was of great importance to him.

Surviving family include his wife, Connie, and two daughter: Vivian (Jim) Dudley of Covington, IN and Brandi (Timothy) Riley of rural Veedersburg, IN. He has two grandsons: Cole (Bethany) Dudley of San Jose, CA, and Dane (fiance Stephanie Snack) Dudley of Lafayette, LA. Also surviving is a brother, Ronald Bensyl of Oakwood, IL, and three nephews: Brian and Craig Bensyl and Chris Oates. He has one niece, Angela Oates. His parents and a sister Barbara Oates preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be Tuesday July 7, 2015 at 11:30 A. M. (EDT) at the Shelby Funeral Home in Covington, IN with Eddy Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery with military honors by Veedersburg American Legion. Visitation will precede the services from 10:00 A. M. to 11:30 A. M.
