CELEBRATION OF AN EXTRAORDINARY LIFE

James “Jimmy” Edwin Lewin, III, beloved son, brother, uncle and friend found his way to God’s heaven on Wednesday afternoon October 10, 2018.

Jimmy was born in Fairfax, Virginia on June 8, 1993. His parents are James Edwin Lewin, Jr., of Covington, Indiana, and Carol Ann (Barrett) Lewin, of Crozet, Virginia. He has four wonderful sisters: Anne-Marie Lewin, Michelle Weaver, Jill Dunn and Camille Lewin (deceased), along with aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

Although diagnosed with an eventually fatal disease, ataxia-telangiectasia (AT), he never let it define his life. Jimmy never complained and always had a beautiful smile and infectious laughter. Everyone he met was drawn to his joyful and loving nature. He was an inspiration to all.

As a wonderful blessing, Jimmy was with his parents his entire life. While his dad was still working for Sprint Corporation, Jimmy joined his parents on business travel including France, Italy, Spain, Malta, Morocco and Sweden. He loved to fly and always asked for the window seat. He completely enjoyed himself while making many new friends abroad.

Jimmy always liked challenges and when his parents retired to become cattle farmers, he quickly learned how to operate all the farm equipment including tractors, backhoes, ATVs and bobcats. He never saw a piece of equipment he didn’t like to drive and was the happiest when he was behind the wheel.

When his family eventually moved to Williamsburg, Virginia, Jimmy quickly adapted and applied his driving skills to boats and jet skis. His favorite boat was christened the “Captain Jimmy” and everyone in the marina would wave as he drove by on the way to the James River.

Jimmy loved everything about school, particularly school buses and his drivers, and graduated from Jamestown high school with the cheers and adulation of his class mates. He is forever linked to his best friend Leroy Bonds. They spent many happy days at Busch Gardens, Dream Catchers therapeutic riding center, and with close friends from school, including a special girlfriend.

For the last six years, he, his mom and dad have lived in Leesburg, Virginia, closer to his “Nanny” and grandmother, Fran Barrett in whom he was close to and loved very much.

In this same time period, Jimmy also enjoyed visiting Florida where he worked as a volunteer Park Ranger for Sebastian River Inlet State Park. He worked in their fishing museum, counting visitors and managing the brochure rack. When his father regularly asked him “had he arrested any fish today” he would always wholeheartedly say “NO dad” and have a good laugh.

Please join us in celebrating the life of a truly extraordinary and courageous young man. In honor of Jimmy, donations may be made to one of the following “Jimmy’s favorite” charities:

The A-T Children’s Project (FL)

Dream Catchers at the Cori Sikich Therapeutic Riding Center (Williamsburg VA)

Friends of Sebastian Inlet State Park (Sebastian FL).

Visitation is scheduled for 12 noon on Tuesday October 16, 2018 at Shelby Funeral Home, Covington, IN, followed by services at 1 P. M. Burial will follow at Hicks Cemetery, Perrysville IN. Condolences to the family: www.shelbyfuneralhome.com .
