Jerald "Jerry" M. O'Neal

Jerald “Jerry” M. O’Neal, 86, of Covington died Saturday August 18, 2018 at Fairway Village, Indianapolis, where he had resided over a year. He was born February 29, 1932 at Covington, IN the son of Jesse Verl and Alpha (Morris) O’Neal.

Jerry was a life resident of Covington and a 1950 graduate of Covington High School, where he was member of the football team. Jerry was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was employed at Olin and Flexel 1973 to 1995. He was also a self-employed backhoe operator for forty years. His memberships include: Sterling Christian Church, Fountain Lodge # 60 F. & A. M., Terre Haute Scottish Rite, Zorah Shrine, Cayuga American Legion Post #263, a life member and Past Commander of Fountain County Old Guard Post #2395 VFW.

Jerry married Joann Lutz February 2, 1952 at Danville, IL and she died March 10, 1994. He married Helen Tyler April 2, 2002 at Henderson, KY and she died January 25, 2015.

Surviving are four children, Jamie (Dohn) Hutson, Jerry (Karen) O’Neal, Judy (Milo) Richey, all of Covington, and Jennie (Richard) Gibbs of Veedersburg; two sisters, Melva Melvin of Waynetown, and Verla (Harold) Merryman of Veedersburg, a brother, Donald O’Neal of Newtown, IN. Also surviving are ten grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and his cat Timmy.

Funeral services 11:00 A. M. EDT Thursday August 23, 2018 at Shelby Funeral Home, Covington with David Sims officiating. Visitation 5:00 to 8:00 P. M. Wednesday at Shelby Funeral Home with Masonic Services at 7:45 P. M. Burial in Mount Hope Cemetery with military honors by the Army and Cayuga American Legion.
