Mary Joyce Lawson

Mary “Joyce” Lawson, 86, of Westville, Illinois, passed away peacefully on November 25, 2022 with her family by her side.

Born October 1, 1936, in Mt. Vernon, Indiana, Joyce was the daughter of William and Dorothy (Stettler) Ridens.  She married Joe Lawson April 1, 1973.  She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Dorothy (Stettler) Ridens, and husband Joe Lawson.

She is survived by siblings:  Wilma Filebark of Westville, IL, Janet (John) Becker of Indianapolis, IN, Linda

Johnson of Westville, IL, Michael (Carol) Ridens of Covington, IN, and Karen (Steve) Lyons of Mackinaw, IL.

Nieces/Nephews: Eric Filebark of MO, Christy Johnson of NC, Stephanie (Brendan) Woolley of NC, Lisa Parsley of IN, Beth (Ben) Byrnes of GA, Laura (Eric) Gardner of IN, Wil Lyons (Scott) of CA, and Emily (Lee) Martin of IN.

Joyce graduated from Schlarman High School in 1954.

She was an accomplished and gifted musician in both the piano and dulcimer.  She was also a member of Bailiff’s Hollow and the Riverside Strummers dulcimer/Irish music groups.   She enjoyed cooking, Civil War history, travelling, spending time with family, and cheering on the St. Louis Cardinals.

Services will be held at St. Mary’s Church in Westville, IL on Saturday, December 3, 2022.  Visitation will begin at 9 A. M., with the Rosary being recited at 9:30 A. M., followed by the Mass at 10 A. M.  Cremation rites have been accorded by Shelby Funeral Home, Covington, IN.

Joyce will be laid to rest at Lower Mound Cemetery, IN Indiana.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given in her name to St. Mary’s Catholic Church – Westville, IL.
