Richard Martin Hawthorne

Richard Martin "Red" Hawthorne, 79 of rural Covington died at 11:45 A. M.
Tuesday July 28, 2015 at home following an extended illness. He was born April 7, 1936 at Watseka, IL the son of Kenneth and Ruby (Dahlquist) Hawthorne.

Richard graduated from Wellington High School and was a life resident of Wellington, IL until moving to Covington in 1996. He was an Army veteran. He was a member of Milford Lodge # 168 A. F. & A. M. and Operators Engineers Local # 841. Richard was employed by Bowles Construction for many years and later by Dale Twiddy and John Boyer. He enjoyed spending time with grandkids, their vacation home in North Carolina, John Deere tractors, and his cats Lucky and Sammy.

Richard married Patricia Marie Gocking and they enjoyed thirty-six years together before her death. He married Connie Bodine Coffing March 7, 1996 at Williamsport and she survives. Also surviving are a sister-in-law Sharon Hawthorne, a nephew Mike (Cindy) Hawthorne, a great niece Molly Hawthorne, all of Florida; a stepson James (Lynda) Coffing, a stepdaughter Jill (Rodney) Wallace, both of Covington; four grandchildren, Sarah Coffing, Kendra Wallace, Stephanie Coffing, and Cori Ann Wallace. His parents and a brother Gerry preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be Friday July 31, 2105 at 1:00 P. M. EDT at Shelby Funeral Home with Rev. Stanley Hicks officiating. Burial will be in Coal Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 to 8:00 P. M. Thursday at the funeral home.
