February 12, 1928 — August 13, 2021

Richard Leon Klage, 93, of Covington, IN went home to be with our Lord and Savior at 8:15 A M. on Friday, August 13, 2021.  Richard was a lifetime resident of Covington, where he and his wife, Rosemary (Fleming) of 71 years lived. Richard was born February 12, 1928 to Louis & Oveta (Laird) Klage in Danville, IL.

Upon graduating from Covington High School in 1946 Richard began helping his father on the family farm as well as working as a substitute mail carrier. Richard enjoyed farming so much that he made it his lifelong career.  As a farmer, Richard milked cows, raised hogs, and harvested corn and beans.

Richard was a member of the Covington First Church of Christ, where he served as a Deacon.  When Richard wasn’t farming, you would often find him sitting around a table playing cards with family and friends or cheering on the Covington Trojans. Richard was known for being a part of the “posse” along with Richard Partezana, Milo Bever, the late Elmo Young, and Greg Clingan as they attended every High School Football and Basketball game.  Richard’s true love was watching his three great grandsons in any activity they participated in.

Richard enjoyed being active in his community.  For 43 years, he served on various government and county committees such as; Fountain County Council, Fountain County Commissioner, Covington Community School Board, Covington Community Foundation, and the Fountain County 4-H Council. Because of his dedication to the community, he received the Distinguished Hoosier Award and the Living Legacy Award.  Richard was also a member of the Knights of Pythias.

He is survived by his wife, Rosemary, daughter, Barbara Macy, two grandchildren; Ryan (Megan) Ellmore & Hillary (Matthew Hawkins) Macy along with three great-grandsons; Caleb, Neil, and Seth Ellmore.  He was proceeded in death by his parents, grandparents, two son-in-laws, Gary Ellmore & Jack Macy, special cousins & friends.
