Robert E. “Bob” Gross, 92 departed this life on March 28,2021 at his home in Covington, Indiana. Robert was born on January 3, 1930 in Danville, Illinois the son of Harry and Alma (Norris) Gross. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Walter, Stanley, and James, as well as his two sisters, June Gross and Hazel Gouty.
Robert married his childhood sweetheart Doris Marilyn Adams November 25, 1950 and shared 63 years of marriage before her passing August 24, 2014. He raised 3 children who survive, Steven A Gross of Belleview, KY, Michael E. (Carla) Gross of Honolulu, HI, and Lynn Tuggle of Mt. Washington, KY. He also has six grandchildren, Natalie Richardson, Sarah Griffin, Ryan (Hannah) Richardson, Erica (Donald) Richardson, Taylor (Rob) Richardson and Isaac Bogdan. He was blessed with six great grandchildren, Alexxis, Hunter, Blaize, Lucas, Layla, and Jayce along with many nieces and nephews.
Bob was proud of his military service in the U.S. army. He was part of the 31st infantry division (also known as the Dixie division). After basic training he attended demolition school and was quickly deployed to Korea. Bob earned many medals. After returning from the war, he re-enlisted for 4 more years, serving as a recruiter and combat engineer.
After his discharge from the service, he returned to Fountain County and gained employment as a heavy equipment operator. He had many interests but mainly he enjoyed fishing, doing yard work, having rummage sales, being a huge Cubs fan, and watching westerns on television. Bob Loved the game of baseball. He spent many years coaching little league teams in 1964 through 1969 as well as the Fountain County Merchants in the Danville Twilight League from 1974 to 1984. Before teaching the game, he was an all- star player himself as a catcher.
Visitation will be held at 2:00 P. M. until time of services at 330 P. M. EDT on Saturday April 2, 2022 at Shelby Funeral Home, Covington officiated by Pastor Kenneth Jones. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery with full military honors by the Army and Veedersburg American Legion.
