Covington Samuel Riley Allen, 81 of Covington went to be with The Lord at 12:30 p. m. Friday August 23, 2013 a t his home. He was born at Marshall, IL September 26, 1931 to Riley and Mamie (Askren) Allen.

Sam married Joan Thompson on February 1, 1954 at Peoria, IL. She survives. Also surviving are 3 children, Warren (Beth) Allen of Linton, Pamela (Doug) Lewis of Kingman and Norman (Theresa) Allen of Attica; 10 grandchildren, Rebecca (David) Lehman, Jason (Jacqui) Lewis, Nicole (Neil) Martin, David (Casie) Allen, Daniel (Jessie) Allen, Joseph Allen, Cecelia Allen, Jessica Allen, Jon (Jennifer) Allen, and Rachel Allen; and 6 great-grandchildren which he loved dearly.

He was a member of Prairie Creek Baptist Church and Fountain/Warren Gideons. He was also a 50 year member of Yeddo Masonic Lodge, a 50 year member of Yeddo O. E. S., a former Fulton Township Trustee and a past president of Fountain County Farm Bureau, Inc.

Sam was a Korean War veteran. He retired from Olin (Flexel) in 1995. He enjoyed his grandchildren and attending their sporting events. He liked to work jigsaw puzzles and was an avid collector of puzzles, matchbook covers and pencils. He will be truly missed by everyone.

A celebration of Sams life will be held at Shelby Funeral Home, Covington on Tuesday August 27, 2013 at 11:00 a. m. EDT with Pastor Warren Allen, his son and Pastor Loren Stephens officiating. Burial will follow in Coal Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 p. m. EDT Monday at Shelby Funeral Home.
