Susie Abernathy

April 12, 1955 — October 28, 2011

Covington Susie Abernathy, 56 of Covington died at 6:58 a. m.Friday Oct. 28, 2011 in St. Vincent Williamsport Hospital following a long battle with cancer. She was born April 12, 1955 at Charleston, IL the daughter of Harold and Mary (Conley) Bugle.

Susie graduated from Charleston High School in 1973. Her family moved to Covington in 1973 and she was a nurses aide at Covington Manor. She has been a teachers aide at Covington Middle School for the past 15 years. She enjoyed the students at school, her childrens sports and family. She was a member of First Church of Christ.


Susie married Mark Abernathy June 25, 1978 at Covington and he survives. Also surviving are 2 sons, Jason and Joe, a daughter, Fara Abernathy, her mother, Mary Bugle, all of Covington; 2 brothers, Jack Bugle of State Line, IN and David (Tammy) Bugle of Covington. Additional survivors, Marks parents Quentin & Belinda Abernathy, 3 nieces, Sierra Bugle, Kim (Matt) Drollinger, Amanda (Joe) Galloway; 4 nephews, Jacob Bugle, J. P. Newkirk, Josh Newkirk, Justin Culley; brother-in-law Brian (Sylvia Culley) Abernathy. Her father preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be at 4:00 p. m. Monday October 31, 2011 at First Church of Christ with Bill Cook officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be 3:00 to 7:00 p. m. Sunday at Shelby Funeral Home. Memorials requested to St. Vincent Williamsport Hospital Foundation with envelopes available at the funeral home. Susie appreciated the caring and many visits of her family and friends, especially the loving care of St. Vincent Williamsport Hospital and Dr. Hafeez.
