Walter Lister

Walter Lister 84, of Attica (Portland Arch) passed away Thursday evening April 20, 2017 at his residence. He was born June 28, 1932 at Danville, IL. to Harvey E. and Viola M. (Cook) Lister. Walter had attended Danville, IL. schools and he served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.

Walter married Iona J. Swim on July 15, 1961 in Danville, IL. She survives along with 2 daughters; Cheryl (Larry) Lyon of Scottsburg, IN. and Karen Ann (James) Chapman of Attica, IN. Also, a Brother-in-law Richard Nicoson of Danville and a Sister-in-law Jean Lister of Danville. 2 Grandsons Brent Durnil and Mark Lyon and a Great-Grandson Carter Wesley Lyon. Along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents 6 sisters and 2 brothers. Walter had been employed as a machinist for many years at the C&EI, Traveler Boats, Esco and Quaker, retiring in 1994. He enjoyed all sports, bowling, tennis, fast pitch softball, hunting and fishing. Walter cherished living in the Covington area and his church friends.

Funeral Service will be Sunday April 23, 2017 at 3:00 P.M. EDT in Shelby Funeral Home of Covington, IN. with James Russell officiating. Burial to follow in Lower Mound Cemetery. Visitation will be 1:00 to 3:00 P.M. Sunday at Shelby Funeral Home. Memorials are requested to the Orchard Hills Church of Christ with envelopes available at the Funeral Home.
